Biography
I grew up in Targu Mures, Romania, in the middle of a diverse, multicultural Transylvania. Having studied Jazz Composition at the Fontys Arts Academy in Tilburg, the Netherlands, under the directions of arranger and composer Maino Remmers, I based myself in two working cities, Bucharest and Amsterdam.
After starting to teach myself guitar in childhood, my teenage years were spent broadening my stylistic palette by producing electronic and hip hop music, while also growing an interest towards mixing & mastering and sound design.
Experience
My music studies in the Netherlands had been intensely focused on working with large jazz and fusion ensembles, being highlighted by my works for the November Music Festival in Den Bosch, winning 3rd prize at the ‘Writing for Big Band - A Challenge?’ European composition contest and performing my graduation piece ‘The Night’ for crossover orchestra. Between 2021 and 2024 is when I formed my own psychedelic rock trio, Tartar Monks, with whom I recorded and played across Romania, ending with a two-week tour, radio appearances and an EP release.
Influences
Inspired by pivotal composers like Bach, Ravel, Stravinsky and Wagner and jazz visionaries such as Coltrane, Duke and Charles Mingus, I am now heavily into modern music as well, switching across with grunge & metal, hip-hop, electronic breakbeat and Middle-Eastern crossover.
As a young artist I am open to unconventional briefs as well as traditional gigs, as I aspire to build a portfolio that encompasses all possibilities in music writing.
Grounded in tradition, eager to explore
Still young, my goal is to learn and experiment as much as I can. I welcome unconventional briefs as readily as traditional gigs — building a portfolio that breaks from the norm and explores what’s possible in writing and performing music.
